The Peninsula Community Recycling Centre

Shotley Road, Chelmondiston IP9 1EF

This site reopened on 4th August 2011, as the community said they would rather pay than lose the service.

The parishes on the Peninsula worked with a local firm Collins Skiphire to start a new 'pay as you throw' scheme. Unfortunately, this did not prove to be financially viable. Consequently, the site ceased to be a fully operational waste centre.

So we now have... Village Skip Days ... which are being run on a voluntary basis by two local residents.

In 2014 the Parish Council asked and was granted by Babergh District Council for the Recycle Centre to be listed as an Asset of the Community. The Asset of the Community Registration expired in March 2019 and the Parish Council renewed the asset in May of 2019. In July the Chairman was asked to deliver a speech at a local Babergh District Council and Mid Suffolk event promoting the reycle centre and the achievements of the volunteers who run it.

In 2019 the Lease for the Recycling Centre was renewed with Suffolk County Council for another 6 years.

The opening times are:

Wednesday: 9.00am - noon

Saturday: 9.00am - noon

Bank Holiday Mondays: 9.00am - noon

Due to the Recycling Centre being run by volunteers there may be times when the Recycle Centre may not be open. An example being extreme weather.

This service is for the community so PLEASE SUPPORT IT.

The Parish Council holds a Waste Carriers Licence, No: CBDU78818 which was renewed in December 2018.

Alan Nunn, who manages the site as a volunteer, can pick up your washing machines or any waste metal.
If you can't get to the site on a Saturday or Wednesday morning, give Alan a call on 01473 780 654 and he will arrange, if possible, to open up at another time.

Disposing of waste costs money so we are asking you to contribute as the recycle is self funding.

The starting prices are from £2.00 and larger loads are negotiable.

The site will accept all items EXCEPT fridges/freezers, gas bottles, TV monitors, vehicle batteries, tyres, plasterboard, asbestos,  liquid and hazardous wastes, including paint and garden soil.

Green Waste skip: Please empty your waste as we don't want plastic bags in this skip.

Shotley Parish Council helped towards the cost of the first skip in 2012 and again will be making a donation of £750.00 for the start of the financial year in April 2019.

Bottle Banks

You will find  bottle banks by the Peninsula Recycling Centre on the Shotley Road, the revenue from which helps with the cost of the skips at the centre.

A further two bottle banks can be found in the village, opposite the Red Lion pub.
We ask you to have consideration for the residents who live nearby when depositing your bottles in the village banks.

The village bottle banks bring in revenue of over £400 per year and this money is used by the Parish Council to support local charities.

Please do NOT put cardboard or polystyrene into these banks.
